In this method of treatment, to increase the level of thyroid hormones, a synthetic type of thyroid hormones is given to the patient.
The goal of this treatment is to resolve the problem of hypothyroidism. It is also used to control the growth of goiter.

These thyroid hormones are given in tablet form. The most common type of thyroid hormone replacement is Thyroxine (T4). The amount of thyroid hormone that is appropriate is determined by the doctor using the blood test.

These drugs usually improve the symptoms of hypothyroidism quickly. Most hypothyroid patients need to take this medicine.

This treatment should be used according to prescribing and physician advice. Some side effects that may appear during the use of this drug include:

  • Severe headache
  • Anxiety
  • Diarrhea and vomiting
  • Weight Loss
  • Sleep disorders
  • Sweat
  • Unusual menstruation

Besides, physicians should be aware of the patient’s condition, including heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, adrenal insufficiency, pituitary gland failure and diabetes.
